The Short List

Favorite Finds

People always ask which brush I used, which hooks hold the heavy frames, and which rug survived yet another wash. This page is my answer, and I keep it short on purpose. These are the tools and basics I reach for again and again in my own house, grouped by the job they do rather than by shop or brand. If something is listed here, it earned its shelf space at my house first, usually more than once. I would rather show you six things I trust than sixty I have only seen in a catalogue. One honest note before you browse: some links on this page may be affiliate links in the future. When they are, they will be marked as affiliate links right where you see them, and they never change the price you pay. Every group below points to the post where I used those basics in a real project, so you can watch them work before you spend a penny.

Sample pots, swatch cards and brushes laid out ready for a painting day
Painting

Paint & Prep Basics

The short kit behind every paint job on this site: sample pots before any big tin, a good angled brush for cutting in, a roller that does not shed, and the swatch cards I move around the room for two days before I commit. Start with the whites post to see the whole routine in action.

Hanging

Hanging & Fixing Kit

Picture hooks in two sizes, a small level, a stud finder and the paper templates I tape up before a single hole gets drilled. Nothing fancy, but it is the difference between a wall that looks planned and one that looks like an accident. The gallery wall post shows the kit doing its job.

Pantry shelves lined with labelled jars, baskets and tins in tidy rows
Storage

Shelf & Storage Workhorses

Clear jars you can see into, labels that stay on, baskets for the packets that fall over, and shelf risers that rescue deep cupboards. These are the pieces that turned my too-deep pantry shelves into storage I can actually use. The pantry post walks through the layout shelf by shelf.

Soft Furnishings

Textiles That Wash Well

Rugs, throws and cushion covers that go in the machine and come out fine, because a house is for living in and mine has muddy days. The rug post covers the sizes that work room by room, and why a washable weave beats a precious one at my place every time.

Plants

Plant Care Basics

A simple watering can with a narrow spout, a mister for the dramatic leaves, sharp little snips for cuttings, and pots with proper drainage holes. That is honestly the whole kit. The low light plants post lists the seven plants that survive my darkest corners on this basic care.

Cleaning

Cleaning Kit That Earns Its Shelf

A caddy of basics that covers nearly every job: a degreaser for cabinet fronts, microfibre cloths that get washed and reused, a stiff brush, and a gentle cleaner for painted wood. The pantry organise post is where this kit earns its keep, top shelf to bottom.
